Bringing It All Together (Finalising Project) 03/11/2011

Finalising My Project

Although we were told that this project was merely a foundation for our up coming solid project, I thought it would be good to put in as much effort as I could into proving what I felt I was capable of producing as a student graphic designer.
I used Journals such as Computer Art and Creative Review for inspiration. I was able to access these books from the Filton Library as I was unable to get to the Bower Ashton Library. I conjured up a lot more ideas looking through Creative Review than I did looking at the Computer Art Journal from some reason
Here, you can see how I have developed my paper engineering peice that I mentioned in an earlier post. . You can see how the triangle has equal angles which means that when it's folded, all the images come together without looking messy. Unfortunately, when I finally folded the up the leaflet, there were still corners sticking out and some of the edges did not look as neat as I would have liked it to.
Here, you can see what the image looks like once it's been folded out. Because I decided to use this leaflet as an illustration for my "Visual Journey", I tried to make it look as if it was folding out into a path. Sadly, I was unable to make it into a longer path because I felt that I was struggling slightly with the little I had. Although, there were some minor issues when working with this leaflet, I still felt that it came out well and I'm happy with the result. Seeing as I spent a large amount of time on this leaflet, I believe that it came out quite successful. I hope to work with paper engineering again some time in the future because, to my surprise, I found it interesting and challenging. I've developed new skills through using creating this leaflet so I would really like to attempt this once again.
Here are some more images of my leaflet from different angles.

I have definitely benefited a lot from the book I mentioned in an earlier blog, Paper Engineering. From the book, I was able to master some basic folding techniques. Folding is part of a hands on approach to Graphic Design which something that I'm not entirely used to. But, as I read the book a little more and started experimenting with one or two techniques in my spare time, I grew to enjoy Paper Engineering.
